Andrew Clarke is a Melbourne-based writer whose career has brought together three lifelong passions: sport, motoring and music. He began as a football journalist before moving into motorsport and motoring, publishing his first book, A Pictorial History of the Australian Automobile, in 1988. Since then, he has written more than 30 books covering motor racing, Australian rules football and the lives of leading athletes and public figures, including seven ghostwritten autobiographies.

Music has remained a constant throughout his life. He has attended thousands of live performances, built an extensive music collection and managed a band during the 1990s. During the same period, he chaired the Liberal Party’s Arts Committee, helping to shape policies supporting music and live performance in Victoria.

As a writer, Clarke has long been fascinated by the power of songs to capture a moment, challenge accepted thinking and become catalysts for social change.
